HCS begins H1N1 immunization clinics for students
Beginning on November 9th, free H1N1 flu vaccine is being made available to all students of Horry County Schools through a cooperative effort between Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and the School District. Please click here for important information regarding the H1N1 flu shots.
The vaccine will be administered at Lakewood Elementary School in the new Primary Gymnasium on Thursday, November 12th from 10:30 AM until 6:00 PM. If you are interested in your child receiving the H1N1 vaccine at school you must complete the enclosed consent form and return it to the school by Monday, November 2, 2009. Since the clinic’s hours will extend until 6:00 PM, we are encouraging the parent/guardian to accompany your child to the clinic if possible.
A small student may not have a large enough muscle in the upper arm for the vaccine injection, therefore; the injection will be given in the upper thigh. Privacy will be maintained at all times if the student needs to have the injection in the upper thigh.
Important: If you consent to your child being vaccinated at school, but your child is unwilling to be vaccinated at the school clinic, we will not forcibly vaccinate him/her. You will be notified in writing if your child did not receive the vaccine.
If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse or the Health Service Department at 843-488-6877.
In 1975 the mascot for Lakewood was the Warriors. This year we are changing the mascot to Bobcats. In the history of our school we have been the Warriors, the Shining Stars and now the Bobcats. The logo was created by Michael Keyser one of our 4th grade teachers. Lakewood Elementary was established in 1959 making this year our 50th anniversary. Changing the mascot is one of the ways we are celebrating 50 years of educating the south strand students. We are excited about the completion of the new addition and look forward in seeing you on Aug. 24th.
